Purpose

The purpose of appointing a ‘Youth Advocate’ at the Danish Embassy is to grow the Embassy’s youth engagement; learn about the perspectives of South African youth and change-makers of today and tomorrow; and most importantly, provide an opportunity for the awarded Youth Advocate to gain work exposure and experience with the Danish Embassy in South Africa. A key element of the Danish Embassy’s work involves sustainability and promoting the ‘green’ agenda in South Africa and internationally. The selected Youth Advocate’s participation will largely focus on this ‘green and sustainable’ element of the Embassy’s work.


Nomination Process

  1.   Applicants to prepare an essay of maximum 1.000 words (based on essay topic given by Embassy; see below). 
  2. Eligible applicants are students that are currently enrolled at a secondary, tertiary or training institution.
  3. Winner of Youth Advocate award is selected based on essay submission, and potential interview with the Embassy.
  4. Youth Advocate is chosen and formally awarded title at the embassy. Event to be posted on social media and live-streamed.
  5. Youth Advocate given brief guide material (social media guide and activities). These are simply a guide and not to be considered terms of reference.
  6. Youth Advocate provided with plans on attending meetings and events. The Youth Advocate will not be required to participate in official assignments or projects for the embassy. Their role is specifically to engage, ask questions at events and meetings that will be scheduled (mainly online engagements).
  7. No remuneration will be provided for the Youth Advocate. However, experience is a key part of the nomination.
  8. The duration of the Youth Advocate award is from 01 September 2021 – 31 August 2022.
