Administrative and Accounting Officer

- At the Danish Embassy in South Africa

The Royal Danish Embassy in Pretoria is looking for a dynamic and effective new staff member to fulfil the function as Administrative and Accounting Officer.

The Administrative and Accounting Officer will be working in the Administrative and Finance Team and reports to the Head of Administration and Finance at the Embassy. In the daily work, the colleague will work closely with the Embassy’s Senior Accountant. The Administrative and Finance team is responsible for the smooth functioning of the Embassy, including maintaining high standards on budgeting, payments and general financial compliance. The Administrative and Finance Team oversees that the rules and regulations for administration and finance are adhered too and provides advice and assistance on financial management to colleagues across the Embassy.

Main tasks and responsibilities
You will be assigned to work mainly on accounting together with the Embassy’s Senior Accountant, which involves making sure that budgets and accounts are up to date and that the Embassy is compliant with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ financial guidelines and regulations. You will also be expected to be available to assist in general administrative tasks across the Embassy.

Required qualifications and experience

  • An Accountancy Degree or similar relevant degree in financial management
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and be able to work independently, efficiently and be able to get things done in time
  • Applicants must also be able to work as part of a team and be ready to assist colleagues across the Embassy
  • You must have SA nationality or hold a valid residence and working permit
  • Excellent writing ability and verbal communication skills in English
  • The applicant must have a clean criminal record and obtain a Police Clearance Certificate from your residing country; the Danish Ministry will also perform a background check.

Employment conditions

  • We initially offer a one-year local contract with the possibility of extension. The contract will be based on the relevant legally binding labour market rules of South Africa.
  • You will be part time employed and your standard working hours will be 25 hours per week.
  • You will be entitled to up to 25 working days of paid holiday per full calendar year.
  • Your basic monthly salary will be 15,000 ZAR with a possibility of extra allowances reflecting your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results.
  • As part of your salary, you will also be added onto the Embassy’s preferred medial aid provider on a plan that covers standard level sickness expenses and full hospital cover with the Embassy paying 80% of the insurance premium including a shared UIF contribution.
