Danish Ambassador opens the new Bang and Olufsen Store in Johannesburg

This Thursday, the Danish Ambassador to South Africa, Trine Thygesen, opened the new Bang & Olufsen store in in the beautiful setting of Melrose Arch in Johannesburg. The Ambassador underlined the need for Danish businesses in South Africa to be the frontrunner in creating growth in both South Africa and Denmark.

Design is one of Denmark’s most important growth sectors and employs more than 85.000 people. This year one of the key representative of the Danish design sector, Bang & Olufsen can celebrate their 90-years anniversary. It started in 1925 with a modest radio production in Struer. Today Bang & Olufsen is represented globally in more than 100 countries and also in South Africa, opening their latest store in Johannesburg this Thursday 3rd of September.

The reception included speeches, product viewing, and a dance show portraying the 90-year history of the Bang & Olufsen concept. Afterwards, speeches from the main shareholder of Bang and Olufsen in South Africa, Shannon Rogotzki was presented, followed by Bang & Olufsen in Denmark’s representative Michael Viberg Pedersen.

The opening speeches also included remarks by Danish Ambassador Trine Thygesen, underling the importance of Bang & Olufsen and their role as representative of Danish design, playing an important role in boosting Danish export. Furthermore she described the increased responsibilities Danish companies have all over the world and especially in South Africa. By opening new Bang & Olufsen stores and expanding their business, Ms. Thygesen emphasized the partnership between the Danish Embassy and companies in order to create growth and strengthen business relations in South Africa. Following the inauguration of the store by cutting the ribbon the audience had a chance to admire the great selection of Danish design-products.

The design sector is pivotal for Denmark in South Africa for which the Danish Embassy is currently planning a larger Danish Design promotion in 2016.
